When On debuted its CloudTec® Phase technology, the Cloudsurfer line shifted from the firm, traditional podded feel of older models to a noticeably smoother, softer ride. With the On Cloudsurfer 3, the Swiss brand takes another leap forward, pairing that seamless roll with its new Surreal superfoam to deliver even deeper impact absorption and livelier toe-off bounce. Built to fix the "bottoming out" issues of its predecessor while retaining a lightweight, effortless feel, this update aims to solidify its spot as the ultimate neutral daily trainer for cruising through easy miles. Here is how the Cloudsurfer 3 actually holds up over real weekly mileage.

What’s New in the Cloudsurfer 3?
Previous models of the Cloudsurfer sported a Helion superfoam, On’s proprietary midsole foam. The Cloudsurfer 3 features a new Surreal supercritical foam inside the Cloud Tec midsole, meant to deliver a softer yet more responsive ride than its predecessor. The Cloudsurfer 3 also includes an update on the upper. The warped knit upper is buttery soft. It also includes a plush collar and extra padding in the tongue. At first I thought all the extra padding would be too much, but once on, the shoe hugs the foot nicely without feeling restrictive.

Cloudsurfer 3 Fit and Sizing
This shoe fits true-to-size. The volume of the toebox is slightly on the lower end, but the midfoot is roomy and comfortable. The lacing makes it really easy to customize the fit. The plush collar keeps the heel secure and is very comfortable! As of now, the Cloudsurfer 3 is only available in medium widths (B for women, D for men), but wide widths will be made available early 2027. If you wear orthotics, it may feel a little loose in the heel. If you’re experiencing this, I’d recommend trying a half size bigger, or lacing your shoes with a heel lock. If you’re unsure how to do this, stop by any of our stores and we’d be happy to adjust the laces for you to see if that helps with any heel slippage.
Cloudsurfer 3 Performance Review: On the Run
Whether you’re looking for a new every-day trainer, a good walking shoe, or something comfortable to stand in at work all day, this shoe is a great option. While it isn’t ultra-plush, it still offers all day comfort and feels more supportive than the previous versions. The rocker geometry offers a smooth, satisfying ride while running but still feels stable while standing. The stack height is relatively high, but doesn’t feel bulky. I’m also super satisfied with the rubber outsole. While tread adds weight to the shoe, it’s well worth the added traction and increased durability.

Cloudsurfer 3: Compared to Other Models
I’d categorize the Cloudsurfer 3 as a moderate-to-premium cushion shoe. Shoes with a similar feel include the Mizuno Wave Rider 30, Hoka Clifton Pro, and Nike Vomero 18. All these options are soft but not ultra-plush and offer a smooth roll forward.

The Final Verdict
While some people may not be a fan of the increased weight, I think On really hit this update out of the park. The fit offers a distraction-free feel and while it is soft and comfortable under foot, it isn’t so plush that you start to lose structure and support. Added durability is also a huge plus, as that was a concern in previous models. I think this shoe could be a great option for just about any activity. If you’ve been curious about the brand On, this shoe would be a great place to start! Stop by and try on a pair!
